Giran House and Movie Entertainment

Map:Giran House and Movie Entertainment
Due to the rapid development of Taiwanese society during the Japanese era, commercial theatres were opened in many different cities. For instance, “Naniwa House”, “Tamsui Hall”, “Taihoku House”, “Sakae House”, “Yuraku House” and “Giran House” thrived in this period because of the invention of sound motion pictures. Such places then became symbols of urban life. When the Taiwan Expo took place in 1935 (Year 10 of the Showa regime), Giran House was chosen as the location for many important events in eastern Taiwan, where a number of cultural relics were also exhibited. These theatres had thus become an integral part of the life and culture of Taiwanese people.
