Map:Once Sea, Now Mulberry Fields
The land in northwestern Tainan City was originally a lagoon formed by several small islands, referred to as “Dao Feng Nei Hai”(Daofeng Inland Sea). At this time ports lined the coast, making it an important commodity distribution center in southern Taiwan. After the 18th century, silting caused “Dao Feng Nei Hai”(Daofeng Inland Sea) to gradually disappear, and led to the formation of salt fields, fish farms and farmlands.
