War of Conquest in Taiwan

Map:War of Conquest in Taiwan
On May 29, 1895 (Year 28 of Meiji regime), the Japanese Imperial Guard landed near Aodi. When the armed forces of the Republic of Taiwan scattered without putting up a fight, riots broke out across the island. In this state of anarchy, President Tang Ching-Sung fled Taiwan. To restore order, the gentry of Taipei sent a representative to lead the Japanese troops into the city to restore order, and thus began the rule of the Japanese Empire in Taiwan, lasting half a century.
