Defending Homelands

Map:Defending Homelands
When the first Japanese Governor General, Kabayama Sukenori, entered Taipei City, he declared the “beginning of administration”. However, the Governor General's Office exerted control over only three areas at the time, including Keelung, Taipei and Tamsui. In the mountain regions of northern Taiwan, such as Sanxia, Taoyuan and Miaoli, as well as central to southern Taiwan, guerilla forces formed by indigenous people launched a heroic rebellion to defend their homeland and property against Japanese troops armed with modern weaponry.
