Ecological and Topographic Diversity

Map:Ecological and Topographic Diversity
Taiwan is located between the Eurasian Plate and the Philippine Sea Plate, where the collision of the plates has resulted in the island's dramatic undulating terrain, consisting of coastlines, plains, hills, valleys and high mountains. Consequently, on this 36,000 square kilometer island, we are able to see both tropical coral reefs and cool forests at the same time. We can now also find the remains of rare ice age organisms in areas of high elevation, and thus Taiwan is like a treasure chest containing a wide range of examples of northern hemisphere ecology.
