Stone Weirs

Stone Weirs

Map:Stone Weirs
Stone weirs are traps built by fishermen in the sea using basalt and coral stones, in which fish and shrimps coming near the shore to forage during high tide are trapped inside during low tide. Such a fishing method was very common in the Penghu archipelago during the Qing Dynasty, with the government even imposing a tax on the stone weirs, showing the importance of this local industry.
