The “Gon-shie” is based on an illustration made by Paul Ibis, who visited the Gon-shie of the Siraya plain indigenes in Toushe of Tainan, when he made an exploration of the area in 1875.
Paul Ibis wrote that he saw some ancient pig skulls and antlers inside the Gon-shie, which the locals considered to be treasures from the past that would bring them health and safety. There were also some water bottles, urns, and branches of betel palms inside the structure. Ibis mentioned that local people would come here before they undertook any dangerous activities, or when there were weddings, childbirths or other important events in their lives.
